About me:
Mr. Hernandez comes to North Garland High School after serving as the Director of Percussive Studies at Greenwood High School in Midland, TX for 14 years.
During his tenure, the Greenwood Drumline earned several accolades, including multiple West Texas Auxiliary Championships 'Overall Outstanding Small School Drumline' awards, 2 Drums Along the Brazos Virtual Championships, and 6 Caprock Color Guard Circuit A Class Championships. The Greenwood Drumline was also named WGI Regional A Class Virtual Finalists in 2021 and 2022.
Over the years, Mr. H's students were also able to capture individual accolades; several have earned a spot in the A.T.S.S.B. All State Band, and multiple students have been awarded Outstanding Soloist at the Texas State Solo and Ensemble Competition.
Mr. Hernandez is graduate of Lubbock High School. After graduation he began studies in Music Education at South Plains College before transferring to Texas Tech University. He is currently a member Texas Music Educators Association, Texas Bandmasters Association, the Percussive Arts Society, and is a brother of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Fraternity of America. He is also a proud artist/endorser of Dynasty Drums and Sabian Ltd.
Mr. Hernandez joins Garland I.S.D. along with his wife, Mrs. Hernandez, who serves as Assistant Band Director at Sam Houston Middle School. When they are not doing band things, they enjoy spending time with their dogs Jazz and Tater, as well as their two cats, Maurice and Tony.
